In this post-apocalyptic thriller series, a hundred young survivors of Armageddon are sent from their sanctuary on orbiting space stations back to Earth to see if the planet can still support life. It may be, but the new colonists are not going to have an easy time of it. Ninety-seven years after a nuclear disaster made Earth unable to support human life, thousands of survivors are living on a space station in orbit around the planet. The survivors really would like to get back down to the planet, but they're not sure if it's habitable yet. To find out, they send a group of young delinquents to scope the place out. Once down on the planet, the group of unwilling explorers finds a place that isn't all the easy to live in. Not only is the planet still pretty hostile in an environmental sort of way, there are also other inhabitants that aren't happy to see them. Some humans have survived and have formed into different clans. One group has turned to cannibalism. Another is a group of libertarian survivalists who aren't very nice. The first season of The 100 debuted in 2014 on The CW. The initial season was met with mixed but generally favorable reviews from critics. Subsequent seasons drew better reviews. As of 2020, plans were in the works for a prequel series to The 100. This series would follow the events of the nuclear disaster and the time between the apocalypse and the beginning of the original series.
