Mike plans to do a rocket launch. Norman decides to make his own rocket without any supervision. Unlike Mike's rocket it doesn't have a parachute and it crash lands. After a thorough check, Sam reassures everyone that there is no danger. Norman feels terrible that he has ruined Mike's launch but luckily they are able to have a launch party that evening with Mike's rocket and no more accidents.

Today the Pontypandy fire station is open to the public. Norman is impatient to get as close to everything as possible. When he can't, he gets frustrated and goes off with James to climb up to the station's roof. James gets in trouble and Norman catches him by the foot. Sam rescues them and they learn that fire stations can be dangerous places and safety always comes first.

Pontypandy is flooded! Norman is worried about Woolley and Lambikins and decides to rescue them. He finds them in the flooded fields and rescues them by boat but they are too restless and tip it over. However, Norman can't swim! Penny in Neptune is alerted by Sam and Tom. They take Norman, Woolley, Lambikins and Lion back to the Fire station where they are safe and sound.

For the Pontypandy three-legged race Norman is paired with Mandy and Dilys is paired with Sam. During the race Norman falls down a hole and hurts his ankle. Dilys and Sam get back to the fire station ahead of everyone else! Dilys has won the trophy for the three-legged race! But there is no time for celebrations as Sam goes to rescue Norman and Tom airlifts him to safety.

James and Norman play with a remote control airplane on the dock. Norman flies the plane and it knocks into Steele who bans him from flying the plane in Pontypandy. Norman persuades James to go up to the mountain to fly the plane. Norman flies the plane into a tree and the boys get stuck while trying to get it. Luckily, James uses the plane to fly a message to get help.

Mandy, Helen, Steele, Norman, Trevor and Dilys go to Crabscuttle cove on the bus. Trevor uses a navigation system that leads them the wrong way to the beach. They get stuck in wet sand! A tide comes in which submerges the bus in the sea. Tom airlifts everyone from the top of the bus to safety in his helicopter. Trevor admits that technology can go wrong and should not be relied upon completely.

Norman has completely forgotten that it's Dilys' birthday. Mandy volunteers to make a cake. Norman helps and turns the timer up to 2 hours then leaves. Mike realizes that his oven is on fire! All of Norman's friends rally around and help him set everything up for the surprise party. The gazebo is up and Norman has baked a new cake. Dilys is delighted; she has had a very special birthday after all.

James and Sarah are playing fireman with their walkie talkies, and James manages to tune into the fire station's radio waves. James helps out the fire-fighters since he can hear all the emergencies that are happening in Pontypandy. James learns that some jobs should be left to the professionals as he put himself in real danger but luckily Fireman Sam was there to save the day.

Sam and his team are training Mike and Charlie to be reserve firemen. Steele is pleased with their progress. But the training has prevented Charlie from catching fish for the Wholefish Café. Steele offers to help but it turns out that he is no use as a fisherman. When a fire breaks out on the boat everyone agrees when there is a crisis, Steele is the man for the job.

Norman's cousin Derek comes to visit and seems like a goody-two shoes. He shows Norman up at every opportunity. Norman hatches a plan for revenge and sends Derek to the mountain where he gets stuck on a ledge. Sam comes to the rescue. Derek accepts Norman's apology but gets his own payback by shaking Norman's hand with a joke hand buzzer. Norman is delighted that his cousin is safe.

Elvis is booked to sing on a local TV show and dreams of life as a singing superstar. A nasty storm hits, starting a fire in the woods. The call goes up and Elvis goes even though he knows that will mean he misses his TV slot. With the fire out, Elvis is whisked to the TV studio by Tom in his helicopter just in time for his performance. He dedicates it to his team- once a fireman always a fireman!

Sam is about to take the children on a Pontypandy Pioneers scouting trip when he is called away to check on some crates that have washed ashore. Trevor volunteers and takes the Pioneers to a zip-line. Norman insists that the terrified Trevor tries the line first and he soon becomes stuck. Sam comes to Trevor's rescue and Norman admits that Trevor was a very brave Pioneer leader!

The Pontypandy kids are playing pirates at the beach. The boy pirates steal the pirate treasure, otherwise known as their picnic, and take to the seas in the rowing boat. The boys take a nap and drift far from shore. The girls become concerned for the boys and raise the alarm. The boys are rescued and returned to safety with the help of Sam, Penny and Tom!
