Ep 1. Who Do You Think You Are?

In the first episode of the British comedy series Ghosts, a young couple named Mike and Alison inherit a large, run-down mansion from a distant relative. Excited by the prospect of renovating the property and turning it into a bed and breakfast, the couple sets to work with the help of Alison's free-spirited friend, Kitty, and a team of contractors.

However, things quickly take a turn for the spooky when Alison starts to see and hear ghostly apparitions around the house. Unsettled by these manifestations, she confides in Mike, who dismisses her fears as stress-related hallucinations.

As the renovations progress, Alison's interactions with the spirits become more frequent and more intense. She meets the ghosts of various former residents and visitors to the mansion, each with their own story and their own unfinished business.

There's Lady Button, a Victorian noblewoman who died in a freak accident and is now bound to haunt the portrait gallery; Julian, a flamboyant 1920s playwright who perished in a fire and can't resist hamming it up for any audience he can find; Thomas, a solemn medieval monk who seeks solitude in the estate's extensive grounds; and the creepy Twins, a pair of children who seem to delight in tormenting Alison.

Despite the increasingly clear evidence of paranormal activity, Mike remains dismissive and dubs the spirits "Alison's imaginary friends". When the couple's financial troubles force them to cut corners on the renovation, however, the ghosts take matters into their own ectoplasmic hands and wreak havoc on the builders.

Desperate to get rid of the spirits and salvage their investment, Mike and Alison turn to Kitty, who has a reputation for dabbling in the occult. Her attempts to exorcise the ghosts only result in more chaos, until the couple realizes that they may have to learn to coexist with the spirits if they want to make the mansion a success after all.

Who Do You Think You Are? sets up Ghosts as a lighthearted ghost story with a strong emphasis on character and situational comedy. The show blends traditional haunted-house tropes with modern humor and an ensemble cast of quirky, memorable ghosts. The pilot episode introduces the main characters and the central conflict in a breezy, engaging way, setting the stage for a season of hilariously spooky adventures.
