Ep 5. Moonah Ston

In the fifth episode of the first season of Ghosts, entitled "Moonah Ston," the spirit squad find themselves dealing with a particularly difficult supernatural presence. Alison and Mike receive a visit from their former boss, a slick and pretentious investor who they used to work for at a tech startup. He is interested in purchasing Button House and turning it into a wellness retreat, and is willing to pay top dollar for the property.

The ghostly residents of Button House are not pleased with this proposal, and their displeasure seems to be manifesting itself in the form of an aggressive poltergeist. Flickering lights, objects moving on their own, and a general sense of unease are par for the course as Button House's residents try to figure out how to rid themselves of this unwanted guest.

The poltergeist is eventually revealed to be that of a young woman named Moonah Ston, who lived in the house during the early 20th century. Moonah's father was a conductor on the local railway, and died tragically in a train crash. Moonah blamed herself for her father's death, believing that he had been on the train because she had taken too long to fetch his hat from her bedroom.

Moonah's grief and guilt caused her to become fixated on the idea of getting her father's watch - a cherished family heirloom - back from the railway company. She became convinced that the watch was cursed, and that it was responsible for her father's death. Moonah's obsession with the watch ultimately led her to take her own life, unable to bear the weight of her guilt any longer.

When the modern-day residents of Button House learn about the story of Moonah Ston, they are determined to put her spirit to rest. With a little bit of help from a visiting psychic, they are able to communicate with Moonah and show her that her father's death was not her fault. They convince her to let go of her guilt and move on from Button House.

"Moonah Ston" is a classic ghost story, complete with mysterious artifacts, tragic backstories, and a restless spirit looking for peace. It's a standout episode in a series that is already packed with memorable characters and spooky (but never too scary) thrills. Plus, there's something undeniably satisfying about watching a slick businessman get his comeuppance at the hands of a group of eccentric ghosts. Fans of atmospheric horror and quirky character-based comedy will find plenty to enjoy in this episode, and in Ghosts as a whole.
