Go Go Gophers was an American animated television series that aired from 1966 to 1968. Produced by Leonardo Productions, the show featured a comedic take on the battles between Native Americans and the encroaching white settlers during the Old West era. The show revolved around the conflict between Colonel Kit Coyote and the Gopher Indian tribe. Colonel Coyote represented the white settlers who wanted to take over the land occupied by the Gopher tribe, while the Gopher tribe was determined to protect their home and their way of life. The Gopher tribe was led by the wise and fearless Chief Roving Buffalo, who was aided by his two loyal warriors, Running Board and Falling Rock. Together, they had to outsmart Colonel Coyote and his bumbling assistant Sergeant Okey Homa.

Each episode of Go Go Gophers followed a similar formula. Colonel Coyote would come up with a new plan to try and outsmart the Gopher tribe and claim their land. However, his plans would always backfire thanks to the clever tactics of Chief Roving Buffalo and his warriors. Running Board and Falling Rock would often find themselves in precarious situations, but would always manage to get out of them with some quick thinking and a bit of luck.

The show's humor came from the contrast between the dim-witted Colonel Coyote and his two lackeys, Sergeant Homa and Private Joe. While the Gophers were portrayed as intelligent and resourceful, the colonel and his men were constantly stumbling over their own ineptitude.

Sandy Becker provided the voice for Colonel Coyote, bringing the character's bumbling stupidity to life. George S. Irving voiced Sergeant Homa, adding to the show's comedic charm with his nasally, high-pitched voice.

Go Go Gophers was praised for its humorous take on a serious subject matter. It offered a lighthearted approach to the historical conflict between Native Americans and white settlers, making it accessible to children without glossing over the issue entirely. The show also touched on themes of loyalty, friendship, and the dangers of greed and imperialism.

In addition to its entertaining storytelling, Go Go Gophers was also known for its catchy theme song. With lyrics like, "Go go Gophers, watch 'em go go go! They chitter and chatter and clatter with feet, they're the best of the West, don't you know!" the song perfectly captured the show's playful and upbeat tone.

Overall, Go Go Gophers was a fun and charming animated series that provided children with an entertaining introduction to the complexities of American history. With its colorful characters, catchy theme song, and humorous take on a serious subject matter, it remains a beloved classic even to this day.
