Hell's Kitchen USA Season 17 Episode 9 Catch of the Day
- July 28, 2021
In season 17 episode 9 of Hell's Kitchen USA, titled "Catch of the Day," the remaining chefs are tasked with a fish-themed challenge. First, they must properly clean and fillet a variety of fish, including salmon, sturgeon, and catfish. They then create a dish featuring their selected fish, which they present to guest judge and seafood expert Michael Cimarusti.
The chefs struggle with the challenge, as many have limited experience working with fish. Some struggle to fillet the fish properly, leading to wasted meat and lower scores from the judges. Others overcook or under-season their dishes, resulting in disappointment and frustration.
In the dinner service, the chefs must prepare dishes using a variety of seafood, including scallops, prawns, and cod. However, Chef Ramsay throws a curveball by introducing a "fishing net" which randomly assigns the chefs to different stations, forcing them to work outside of their comfort zones.
The service is marked by some impressive performances, including standout dishes from chefs Robyn and Nick. However, others struggle, with Chef Ramsay lambasting one chef for serving raw scallops and another for overcooking ahi tuna.
Ultimately, Chef Ramsay chooses one chef to be sent home, with their dish deemed the weakest of the night. The remaining chefs continue on in the competition, one step closer to winning the Hell's Kitchen title.
