In the second season of His Dark Materials, audiences are brought back into the diverse and magical world created by Philip Pullman as Lyra, who has just stepped into a new world, and Will, who is plagued with visions, continue on their dangerous quest to uncover the truth about their own identities and the universe in which they live.

In the season two premiere episode, "The City of Magpies," Lyra is trapped in a deserted world and must fight for her survival while Will heads off to find his own father, leaving Lyra behind with the knowledge of how to find him if he is able to retrieve a special item.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter, Lyra's mother, is on a mission to locate her daughter, unaware of the danger that awaits her on the other side. The episode introduces new characters such as the witch Ruta and the powerful Angel Balthamos, as well as revisiting previous favorites like Lee Scoresby and Commander Iofur Raknison.

As Lyra navigates an unfamiliar world filled with dangerous creatures and secrets, she discovers the sinister intentions of those in power who seek to control the fabric of the universe and the mysterious substance known as Dust. With danger at every turn, Lyra finds herself facing off against formidable foes, but also making new allies, including the cunning Will who joins her on her journey.
