Charlie Kelly is not known for being the brightest of the bunch in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," but in season 9 episode 8, entitled "Flowers for Charlie," he decides to embark on a new journey of intelligence. After a late-night infomercial convinces him that he can increase his intelligence by taking a pill called "Grain Alcohol," Charlie becomes determined to try it out. However, his friends are skeptical of the pills and worry about Charlie's well-being. Determined to prove them wrong, Charlie sets out to conduct a series of experiments to test the efficacy of the pills.

Charlie's experiments start off simple, but quickly escalate into dangerous territory. He begins by trying to solve a Rubik's cube, which turns out to be a failure. He then moves on to trying to read through complex scientific journals, but struggles to understand the material. In his next experiment, Charlie tries to communicate with bees, which results in a painful bee sting. Despite the setbacks, Charlie continues to take the pills and insists that they are working.

Meanwhile, the rest of the gang is busy dealing with their own problems. Dennis is trying to set up a beauty pageant for toddlers, while Mac and Frank are getting involved in a pyramid scheme. Dee is struggling with loneliness and trying to find ways to make herself feel better. As Charlie's experiments become increasingly dangerous, they become more concerned about his well-being and try to find a way to convince him to stop taking the pills.

As the episode progresses, Charlie's behaviors become more erratic, and his friends are worried about his mental health. They eventually decide to confront him and bring him to a doctor to get checked out. However, things take a dark turn when they discover that the pills Charlie has been taking are not what they seem, and they have been causing him to have hallucinations. With the help of a genius scientist, the gang is able to reverse the effects of the pills and bring Charlie back to his normal self.

In classic "It's Always Sunny" style, the episode ends on a funny yet slightly ominous note, as the gang realizes that Charlie may have been the only one who was able to understand the complex scientific theories he had been studying while on the pills. Overall, "Flowers for Charlie" is a hilarious yet somewhat disturbing episode that highlights the dangers of blindly following self-improvement trends.
