Life Below Zero: Next Generation, a spin-off show that follows the lives of people living in remote areas of Alaska, premiered its first episode on September 24, 2020. In season 1 episode 1 entitled Declaration of Independence, viewers are introduced to the new cast members who have chosen to live off the grid and the challenges they face in this isolated Alaskan world.

The episode begins with a group of people embarking on a journey to remote Alaska with the intention of living off the land and starting a new life. This group consists of Chris, Tina, and Eric. Chris is an experienced Alaskan bushman while Tina and Eric are a married couple who are determined to live off the land. They are going to be mentored by Jessie Holmes, a previous cast member of Life Below Zero who lives nearby.

The new cast members have a lot to learn as they set up their new home in a cabin in the wilderness. Chris teaches them how to start a fire, build a shelter, and hunt for food. The group quickly realizes that living in the wilderness is tough, and before long, they are faced with their first challenge. A massive storm hits, which covers everything in a fresh layer of snow. This means that the group must deal with the cold and snow, which are deadly in Alaska. They try to pass the time by playing games and telling stories but must remain vigilant at all times.

Meanwhile, in other parts of Alaska, we see other cast members who live a similar lifestyle. We see a family who live in a cabin in the Kobuk Valley National Park with their two children. They have no access to electricity or running water but the family has adapted to their lifestyle by using wood stoves to keep warm and their surroundings to forage for food.

We also meet another resident of Alaska, Andrew, who lives by the Arctic Ocean in a small hut. Andrew has lived in Alaska for over 20 years, and he understands his surroundings well. He takes viewers on a tour of his surroundings, showing them some of the wildlife that lives in the area. He explains how he gets water during the winter months and how he relies upon his hunting skills to eat. It seems that Andrew is well adapted to life in Alaska.

Throughout the episode, we see Jessie guiding the new cast members through their first few weeks of living in Alaska. He takes them out hunting and helps them set up traps to catch animals. He also takes them to a fishing spot to catch some fish for dinner. Jessie is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to living off the land, but the new cast members have a long way to go before they can handle the challenges of living in Alaska on their own.

Overall, Life Below Zero: Next Generation season 1 episode 1, is an engaging and entertaining introduction to the new cast members and their way of life in Alaska. The show does an excellent job of showing the challenges that people face when living off the land and how much work is required to survive in such a remote location. The mix of new cast members and old provides a fresh perspective on living in Alaska, and it is sure to keep viewers intrigued about what happens next.
