After a successful heist on the Royal Mint of Spain, the mastermind behind the plan, known only as "The Professor," and his team of robbers have gone into hiding. However, their freedom is short-lived as one of the team members, Rio, is captured by the police. The team must come together once again to rescue Rio and continue their plan to print billions of euros at the Spanish Banknote Factory.

In Episode 1 of Money Heist Season 2, the team comes out of hiding to plan their next move. The Professor leads the discussion and assigns roles to each of the team members. Tokyo is tasked with locating Rio's exact location and assessing the situation. Denver and Helsinki are in charge of finding a place to print new passports for the team, so they can move freely after the heist is over. Nairobi and Moscow must secure the factory where they plan to print the money.

Meanwhile, Rio is being held captive and interrogated by the police. He refuses to give up any information about the team, which frustrates the authorities to no end. The interrogator, Alicia Sierra, is introduced in this episode and is a formidable force against the robbers.

In a nail-biting scene, Tokyo manages to locate Rio's whereabouts and assess the situation. She comes up with a plan on how to get him out, but it requires the team to split up into small groups and operate outside of the usual plan, which makes everyone apprehensive.

As the episode progresses, we see flashbacks of The Professor and Berlin discussing the plan and their motives.
