Ep 4. Waverly Hills Sanatorium - Kentucky

  • November 25, 2008

Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky is the focus of this episode of Most Haunted, as the team investigates the history of one of America's most notoriously haunted places. The sanatorium was built in 1926 as a tuberculosis hospital and was up and running to care for 50 to 400 patients at any given time until it was converted into a nursing home in 1961. The hospital was closed in 1982 and left empty until it was bought by a new owner who would eventually organize a ghost tour. Today, the sanatorium is known for its supposed paranormal activity, and the Most Haunted team is determined to find out why.

Throughout the course of their investigation, the team witnesses a variety of strange and unexplained occurrences. First up is the death tunnel, a tunnel-like structure that was once used to transport the bodies of deceased patients out of the hospital without alarming the others. The team sets up equipment in the tunnel and are immediately spooked by an unexplained noise. Meanwhile, psychic medium Chris Conway is experiencing intense sensations, describing the spirit world as being like a busy airport with lots of energy and people moving around.

The team then moves on to the fourth floor of the hospital, where patients with the most severe cases of tuberculosis were kept. It's here that they experience some of the most intense paranormal activity of the episode. Physhic medium Chris Conway, for example, is overwhelmed by an intense sensation of sadness and despair, while team members experience strange smells, sounds and unexplained temperature drops. The team also express a sense of being watched constantly and shadows are consistently caught moving on camera.

As they move through the building, the team discovers several areas of intense paranormal activity, including a nurses' station that seems to be a hotspot for ghostly happenings. As they conduct their investigation, they also discover a mysterious graffiti message on one of the walls - "1-1-7" - and attempt to decipher it. However it remains unclear what 1-1-7 might mean, so they decide to conduct further investigations into the hospital’s history.

Throughout the episode, the Most Haunted team uses a variety of methods to try and uncover the paranormal activity happening at Waverly Hills Sanatorium. They set up a variety of cameras and recording equipment throughout the building, which captures some eerie footage of objects moving and even the sound of footsteps in the empty hallways. They also use dowsing rods - devices often used in paranormal investigations to communicate with spirits - and conduct séances in an effort to contact the ghosts themselves.

Despite all their efforts, the team is unable to definitively pin down what is causing all the paranormal activity at Waverly Hills Sanatorium. However, they do agree on one thing - there is definitely something strange and unexplained happening at this location, and it's worth investigating further. For anyone interested in the paranormal, Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky should definitely be added to your must-visit list.
