In Nailed It season 6 episode 2, titled "Paranormal Pastries," three amateur bakers compete in a spooky-themed baking challenge to win a $10,000 prize. Host Nicole Byer and pastry chef Jacques Torres are joined by guest judge Caroline Rhea, who is best known for her role as Aunt Hilda in the television show Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
The episode starts with the contestants being introduced, each with their unique personalities and baking backgrounds. First is Luis, a stay-at-home dad who bakes to make his daughter happy. Next is Kai, an artist who is known for her elaborate and creative cake designs. Finally, there is Gabby, a college student who loves to bake as a stress reliever.
The first challenge is to create a cake inspired by a campfire ghost story. Each contestant has 90 minutes to complete their cake, and they must incorporate a special ingredient: edible glucose, which is used to create spooky effects like spider webs and slime.
The bakers quickly get to work, and the kitchen is filled with the sounds of mixing, whirring, and nervous laughter. Luis struggles with the consistency of his cake batter, while Kai focuses on creating intricate details on her cake. Gabby tries to stay calm and focused, but she accidentally drops a crucial ingredient on the floor, causing her to panic and improvise.
As the time ticks down, the contestants rush to get their cakes finished and onto the judging table. The results are mixed, with some impressive designs but also some major flaws and mishaps. Caroline Rhea offers her expert opinion on the cakes, and Nicole and Jacques provide hilarious commentary and encouragement to the contestants.
The second challenge is even more challenging: the contestants must create a dessert inspired by a popular horror movie. Luis chooses to make a "Jaws" themed dessert, while Kai creates a "Psycho" inspired dish. Gabby decides to take on "The Exorcist," a notoriously difficult movie to translate into dessert form.
The contestants encounter a variety of challenges during the second round, from temperamental chocolate to tricky piping techniques. Each baker tries their best, but it remains to be seen which dessert will come out on top.
Finally, the judges take a closer look at each dessert and make their decision. Will one of the bakers win the $10,000 prize, or will they all leave with a sense of accomplishment and a new appreciation for the challenges of professional baking? Tune in to find out in Nailed It season 6, episode 2: "Paranormal Pastries."
