In the second episode of Nailed It season 7, the contestants are tasked with creating their own versions of iconic characters and scenes from the hit Netflix series, The Witcher. Host Nicole Byer and judge Jacques Torres greet three amateur bakers who have wildly varying levels of baking experience and confidence. The contestants are given a limited amount of time to recreate a fantastical cake depicting a famous character or scene from the show.
The first challenge is for the bakers to create a cake based on the character Yennefer, who is known for her distinctive black, white, and gold ensemble. The bakers are initially feeling confident, but things quickly go awry as they struggle to achieve the complex shapes and designs required for the cake. One baker attempts to use edible spray paint to achieve the desired effect, only to end up with a sloppy mess. Another contestant's cake collapses halfway through the decorating process, leaving her frantically trying to salvage the remains.
The judges are visibly unimpressed with the results of the first challenge, but they award a small bonus to the baker who managed to create the most recognizable cake.
The second challenge is even more daunting, requiring the contestants to create a cake inspired by the terrifying creatures known as wraiths from The Witcher series. The bakers are given a more limited timeframe to complete this challenge, and they must also incorporate some sort of hidden surprise or special effect into their creations.
The bakers struggle mightily with this challenge, as the wraiths are notoriously difficult to depict in cake form. One of the contestants makes a disastrous choice by attempting to use a hot glue gun to reinforce her cake layers, causing the entire thing to become inedible. Another baker's cake manages to capture the essence of the wraiths, but is completely ruined by an overzealous use of dry ice.
The judges are impressed with the amount of effort the bakers put into their creations, but ultimately only one contestant manages to create a cake that meets the high standards of the show. She is crowned the winner of the episode and takes home a prize of $10,000.
Throughout the episode, host Nicole Byer provides her trademark humor and encouragement to the bakers, as they navigate the complexities of creating cakes based on one of the most popular fantasy series of recent years. Judge Jacques Torres is suitably impressed by the level of creativity on display, but does not hesitate to offer scathing critiques when the contestants fall short.
Despite the challenges presented by the difficult subject matter, the bakers in this episode of Nailed It manage to create cakes that are both impressive and hilarious. The Witcher may be known for its dark and serious tone, but this episode provides a welcome dose of lighthearted fun. Fans of the show will not be disappointed.
