Ep 3. O, the Helenists...

As the third episode of Neo Yokio opens, we find Kaz Kaan once again caught up in the drama of his world. The city, always a character in its own right, is as glamorous and fast-paced as ever, but Kaz seems to be feeling the strain of his privileged, glittering life.

He's grieving the death of his Aunt Angelique, and struggling to come to terms with his role as a "magistocrat" - a wealthy, powerful member of society with magical powers. To make matters worse, his recent breakup with his girlfriend, the elegant and enigmatic Kathy, has left him feeling even more adrift.

But that's just the setup for this episode's main plotline. Kaz's friend and mentor, the fashionable and inscrutable Charles, introduces him to the Helenists, a secret society that appears to be made up of artists, creatives, and philosophers. Kaz, hungry for a sense of purpose, is intrigued by their air of mystery and rebellion.

It turns out that the Helenists are planning a bold and politically charged art installation - a replica of the lost, legendary statue of Helena. This statue, which depicted the self-proclaimed Goddess of Love and Beauty, was a symbol of freedom and resistance in Neo Yokio during a time of oppression and censorship.

Kaz is immediately drawn to the idea of resurrecting Helena, the ultimate symbol of rebellion. But the Helenists are a divisive group, and not everyone is on board with the plan. Some members are more interested in intellectual debate and artistic exploration than in direct action, and tensions arise within the group.

Meanwhile, Kaz's love life continues to be a source of personal turmoil. He meets up with his ex-girlfriend Helena in an attempt to understand why she dumped him, and he spends some time with his close friend Lexy, a fellow magistocrat who is struggling to balance her magical duties with her own artistic ambitions.

All of these threads - Kaz's search for meaning, the Helenists' grand plan, and Kaz's personal relationships - intertwine and overlap, leading to a dramatic ending that sets the stage for the rest of the series.

Overall, episode three of Neo Yokio is a satisfying and engaging slice of this unusual world. As ever, the show is both visually stunning and thematically rich, exploring issues of class, race, culture, and desire in exciting and often unexpected ways. And with its interesting characters and complex plots, it's definitely worth a watch for fans of sci-fi, fantasy, satire, and drama.
