Ep 2. Outside

In season 3 episode 2 of One Day at a Time titled "Outside," the Alvarez family is dealing with the aftermath of a break-in at their home. As they try to make sense of who could have done this, they each struggle with their own feelings of fear and vulnerability. Elena, the family's feminist activist daughter, becomes especially worried about the safety of their neighborhood and decides to take matters into her own hands.

Meanwhile, Penelope, the family's matriarch and a veteran struggling with PTSD, finds it difficult to feel safe even within the walls of their own home. She begins to have panic attacks and seeks therapy to try to cope with her anxiety.

Elsewhere, Schneider, the Alvarez family's lovable but bumbling landlord, tries to play the role of protector for the family but only ends up causing more chaos. His actions also bring up some deeper unresolved issues about his own family history.

As they all navigate their newfound sense of insecurity, the Alvarez family must come together and find a way to feel safe again, both within their home and in the world outside. "Outside" is an episode about the importance of family, community, and resilience in the face of fear and uncertainty.
