Ep 1. The Few Who Dare

The Few Who Dare is the first episode of the fifth and final season of the popular Canadian science fiction television series, Orphan Black. The episode opens with a quick recap of the previous season, as well as a reminder of what has happened to several of the show's core characters.

The episode begins with a prologue taking place on one of the many deserted islands in the Arctic Circle. The prologue features the only surviving clone of the Canadian military experiments, known as Project Leda, which gave birth to the show's unique characters. The clone is covered in snow and is making its way through an arctic landscape to a large, mysterious, and apparently abandoned facility.

Back on the mainland, the episode picks up where the previous season left off – Sarah Manning, one of the show's key characters, is desperately trying to find her daughter, Kira, who has been taken by the group of top-secret military scientists who created Sarah and her fellow clones. Sarah's confidantes, Cosima and Alison, are also back, with Alison continuing to struggle with the guilt she feels after accidentally killing one of her friends.

As The Few Who Dare progresses, viewers learn that Sarah's daughter Kira has been taken to a new facility by the military scientists with the intention of continuing their experiments on her. Meanwhile, the remaining clones are on the run, trying to avoid detection by the powerful forces that are hunting them down. Sarah, still struggling with the after-effects of her recent experiences, decides to follow a mysterious lead in the hopes of rescuing Kira.

The elusive and reclusive clone, Rachel, also makes an appearance in the episode. Rachel has long been a wildcard in the series, aligning with both the clones and the corrupt military operation that created them. Rachel is given an offer too tempting to refuse by the mysterious organization that is currently operating behind the scenes of the show's events.

Throughout the episode, viewers are also introduced to a new character – a young woman named Brie who is part of a resistance movement. Brie is skeptical of the clones and their history, but her involvement with them sets the stage for the fifth season's exploration of the larger implications of the characters' creation and current situation.

The Few Who Dare is a classic Orphan Black episode in that it juggles multiple plot lines and character relationships while still somehow managing to move the overall narrative forward. Fans of the series will be pleased to see the return of their favorite characters, as well as the introduction of new elements that will undoubtedly keep them guessing throughout the season. Despite being the final season of the show, the episode does not feel rushed or forced - instead, it sets the stage for what promises to be a thrilling and fitting conclusion to this unique and imaginative show.
