Sally has been preparing for weeks for the school talent show. She has been practicing her recital of "Little Buttercup" from H.M.S. Pinafore, and she is convinced that she is going to win first prize. However, when the day of the talent show arrives, Sally's nerves get the best of her, and she ends up doing a terrible job.

Sally's brother, Charlie Brown, tries to console her after the performance, but she is too upset to listen to him. Meanwhile, Lucy is convinced that she can do a better job than Sally and decides to enter the talent show herself. She chooses to recite a scene from Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet."

The night of the talent show, Lucy takes the stage and recites her lines with great gusto. However, by the time she finishes, the audience applauds politely but without enthusiasm. Frustrated, Lucy storms offstage, convinced that the audience didn't appreciate her genius.

As the judges tally up the scores, it becomes clear that Sally has indeed won first prize. When she hears the news, she is overjoyed and rushes to collect her prize. However, as she steps offstage, she overhears some of the judges talking. They say that Sally only won because she was the least terrible of all the performers.

Sally is devastated by this news and wonders if she really deserved to win. However, her friends rally around her, and they convince her that she did a great job and that she deserved to win fair and square. Sally eventually comes to believe this and is able to take pride in her victory once again.

In the end, the episode is a heartwarming tale of friendship, perseverance, and the importance of believing in oneself. It shows that even when things don't go according to plan, there is always a way to find the strength to keep going and to come out on top in the end.
