Pokemon the Series Season 17 Episode 42 Origins of Mega Evolution!
- November 8, 2014
Ash and his friends arrive at the Pokémon Village, where a festival is being held. The festival celebrates the history of Mega Evolution and its origins in the region they're visiting. The group learns a great deal about the surprisingly complex history of the technology and what it truly means for the trainers and their Pokémon. Ash takes an interest in the man who is responsible for many of the advancements in Mega Evolution technology and decides to meet with him to learn more about the history of the legendary power. The man is known as the "Mega Evolution Guru."
The guru's name is Gurkinn and he reveals to Ash and the group that he and his grandson Korrina are the only formally recognized Mega Evolution successors. Gurkinn reveals that there is more to Mega Evolution than just the transformation of Pokémon during battle. He goes on to explain that there are two different types of transformation during Mega Evolution: "complete" and "partial". Complete transformation is what most people are familiar with, where the Pokémon undergoes a full evolution to become a Mega form. Partial transformation, however, is when the Pokémon's appearance changes, but they do not undergo a full evolution.
Following this information, Ash and the group are introduced to Korrina, who is the Gym Leader of the Shalour City Gym, and the granddaughter of Gurkinn. She shows them how to use Mega Evolution, and its importance in battles, by using her Lucario to battle Ash's Pikachu. However, during the fight, a shadowy figure appears and disrupts the fight. Gurkinn later confirms to Ash and his friends that the figure was actually Alain, a young trainer from the Kalos region who is seeking to become the strongest Mega Evolution Trainer ever.
Alain reveals himself to be one of the few trainers who were selected to investigate Mega Evolution, and he has come to the Pokemon Village to learn more about the technology from Gurkinn. Ash and Alain eventually face off in a battle, with Ash utilizing all the knowledge he has learned about Mega Evolution from Gurkinn and Korrina. The battle is intense, but Ash ultimately takes the victory.
As the episode comes to an end, Gurkinn advises Ash to use his newfound knowledge of Mega Evolution wisely, and to never forget the bond he shares with his Pokémon. The episode ends with Korrina and Ash saying goodbye to one another, with Ash determined to continue his journey to become the strongest Pokémon trainer he can be.
Overall, Origins of Mega Evolution is an exciting and enlightening episode of the long-running Pokémon series. It provides a glimpse into the history and significance of Mega Evolution and is an engaging way to learn more about this part of the Pokémon world. Fans of the series, as well as newcomers, will find something to enjoy in this episode.
