R.E.M., an alternative rock band that originated in Atlanta, Georgia, is known for such melodious tunes as "Drive" and "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?". However, many fans probably wouldn't recognize their early work. R.E.M. 1980 produced a sound that was raw and had a little bit of edge to it. Dead Letter Office and Murmur were both albums produced around this era that incorporated punk and rock and roll while utilizing lyrics that had some mystique surrounding them. The end result is a roller coaster ride of pure energy and passion that puts the band in a league of their own.
