Things come to a head when the new Security Guard tries to arrest a student, and a physical altercation ensues. Coach Mellor intervenes, and tensions reach a boiling point.
In the end, with the help of the school's principal, Coach Mellor comes to realize his mistakes and tendency to overreact. He ends up apologizing to the staff and students, and things start to go back to some sort of normalcy. The episode ends with a feel-good moment, as Lainey's music group finally performs together in front of the school, and the staff and students cheer them on.
Overall, "I, Mellor" is an episode that shines a light on the struggles of finding one's place in a new environment. The show does an excellent job of highlighting how a person's insecurities and desire for recognition can sometimes affect their behavior and those around them negatively. However, it also shows how one can correct their mistakes and learn from them while still finding a place in the community.
