In the second episode of SCP Foundation, the team is tasked with investigating SCP-087, a seemingly endless stairwell located within an undisclosed building. The stairwell appears to have no logical end and the only way to access it is through a small doorway at the top of the first flight. As the team descends into the stairwell, they quickly realize that it is not only long, but also seems to be alive in some way.

One of the team members, Agent Reddick, becomes separated from the others and begins to experience strange occurrences within the stairwell. He hears disembodied voices and feels a constant sense of dread. The rest of the team eventually catches up to him and they continue down the stairwell.

As they descend further, they begin to see strange creatures lurking in the shadows. The creatures appear to be humanoid, but with elongated limbs and twisted features. The team tries to capture one of the creatures, but it disappears before they are able to do so.

As they continue down the stairwell, the team begins to experience hallucinations and illusions. They see images of loved ones and hear their own inner thoughts being whispered back to them. The stairwell seems to be messing with their minds and they are unable to trust what they are seeing or hearing.

Eventually, the team reaches a landing and find a large metal door with the words "Do Not Enter" written in red paint. Despite the warning, the team decides to enter the door and find a small room with a single piece of paper on a table. The paper contains a single sentence: "Sometimes it's better to not know."

The team quickly realizes that they have been lured into SCP-087 by an unknown force and begin to make their way back up the endless stairwell. Along the way, they encounter more of the strange creatures and continue to experience hallucinations.

As they finally reach the top of the stairwell, the team finds themselves back in the original room where they first entered SCP-087. They quickly leave and report their findings to the Foundation, who classify SCP-087 as a Euclid class object due to its ability to manipulate reality and induce hallucinations.

Overall, this episode is a tense and unsettling exploration of the horrors that lurk within the SCP Foundation universe. The team's descent into SCP-087 is filled with moments of terror and suspense, while their eventual escape is a relief but also leaves many questions unanswered. SCP-087 is a great example of the kind of unsettling and intriguing storytelling that SCP Foundation does so well.
