Det. Frank Hathaway and his friend Lu Shakespeare investigate a case involving a cursed hand that seems to be causing a string of bad luck for anyone who comes into contact with it. The hand initially came into the possession of local florist Gloria Conti, who claims it was given to her by a mysterious stranger. When Gloria's shop is vandalized and her fiancé is injured, Lu and Frank begin to look into the origins of the hand in order to solve the case.
Their investigation leads them to a group of re-enactors who specialize in a historical battle that took place in the area hundreds of years ago. They discover that the hand is a prop that was stolen from a re-enactor's collection, and that whoever possesses the hand is believed to have control over the outcome of the battle. Frank and Lu realize that the curse associated with the hand may have more to do with the intense beliefs of the re-enactors than any actual supernatural force.
As they delve deeper into the case, Frank and Lu must contend with multiple suspects who have different motives for wanting the hand, including a wealthy businessman who wants it for his private collection and a former soldier who believes it is his duty to return it to its rightful place in the historical re-enactment. Along the way, they must also navigate their own personal issues, including Frank's complicated relationship with his ex-wife and Lu's growing feelings for a fellow florist.
In the end, Frank and Lu are able to solve the case and bring the person responsible for all the mayhem to justice. However, as they contemplate the meaning of the cursed hand and the lengths people will go to obtain it, they realize that the battle to control the hand may not be over yet. The episode ends with Frank and Lu remaining vigilant, ready to tackle whatever strange and unusual cases come their way in the future.
