Watch Shardlake

Cromwell is furious at Shardlake's lack of results and gives him a terrifying ultimatum. Shocked after uncovering the history behind the murder weapon and the true owner of the sword, Shardlake faces a stark choice: to please his master or deliver true justice. He returns to Scarnsea with everything at stake.

When Goodhap is discovered missing, something does not add up. Barak is agitated by the slow pace of the investigation and moves to hurry it along, but Shardlake refuses to compromise the truth. The discovery of the murder weapon prompts Shardlake to have the monastery pond drained to reveal another secret. As Barak and Alice confess their feelings for each other, Shardlake sets out for London to trace the provenance of the murder weapon, where an unwelcome surprise awaits him.

Shardlake's investigation intensifies and suspicion arises amongst the monks. Barak is frustrated by Shardlake following the trail of the monastery’s accounts, where he believes there may be a cover-up. Brother Jerome provides some unwelcome information that puts both their lives at risk. A narrow escape for Shardlake intensifies his feelings for a young assistant, Alice. Barak rows with Dr. Goodhap and Shardlake receives the shocking news of another murder.

Matthew Shardlake is sent by Thomas Cromwell to a remote monastery to investigate a brutal murder, and to close the monastery. To his irritation, he is accompanied by Cromwell’s handsome and arrogant man, Jack Barak. Upon arrival, the two men are met with a wall of conspiracy and silence. The monks claim the murder was committed by an outsider. But when a novice confesses to Shardlake that there are other deaths, the investigation turns to the monastery’s inhabitants.
