Ep 5. It's Time

It's Time is the fifth episode in the first season of the gripping Netflix series, She. The episode continues to follow the journey of Bhumika Pardesi, a timid, introverted female constable turned undercover prostitute.

The episode begins with Bhumika's internal conflict as she refuses to admit that she is growing comfortable with her double life. However, events taking place around her force her to realize the reality of her situation, as she is made more aware of the dangers of the world around her.

Bhumika’s superior officer, Jason Fernandez, informs her of the imminent arrival of a high-level politician, Dr. Zaidi, notorious for his misogyny, and his plans to visit the red-light district. According to Jason, Dr. Zaidi poses a significant risk to the safety of the women in the brothels, and Bhumika is tasked with finding out what he has planned and reporting back to the police.

Devastated by what she has to do, Bhumika is spurred into action by the more pressing concerns of her friend and roommate, Ayesha. Ayesha, one of the other sex workers in the brothel, is being harassed by a client who has become obsessive and dangerous. The situation has escalated to the point where Ayesha is being followed and threatened outside of work, and her life is at risk.

Bhumika, with her newfound skills in deception, approaches Ayesha's stalker and cleverly manages to extract information from him that will allow the police to bring him to justice. Though the situation is tense, Bhumika proves to be a capable and effective undercover agent in this moment of crisis.

Elsewhere, Bhumika's personal life is also in turmoil. She is caught between two worlds, as her husband is suspicious of the sudden changes in her behavior and is beginning to question her fidelity. Bhumika, for her part, is unable to answer his questions truthfully, and the rift between them continues to grow.

Complicating matters further, Bhumika begins to struggle with the moral implications of selling her body as a means of doing her job as an undercover agent. She is now faced with the realization that she may have to choose between her ethical principles and her commitment to the police force.

As the episode progresses, Bhumika becomes increasingly aware of the complexities of the work she is doing and the risks involved. She is forced to confront the harsh realities of life in the red-light district and the dangers that she and her colleagues face every day.

It's Time is an intense and thought-provoking episode of She, highlighting the societal injustices faced by sex workers and the unique challenges of working undercover. As always, Aditi Pohankar shines in her role as Bhumika, bringing honesty and empathy to a difficult and complex character.
