In the premiere episode of Terriers, viewers are introduced to Hank Dolworth (Donal Logue) and Britt Pollack (Michael Raymond-James), two friends from Ocean Beach, California. Hank is a former cop who has turned to private investigating after a scandal forced him out of the force, while Britt is an ex-thief who has cleaned up his act and become Hank's partner in his new profession.

The episode begins with Hank stumbling out of a bar in the middle of the night, clearly drunk and disheveled. He tries to make his way home but gets sidetracked when he overhears a domestic disturbance in a nearby house. Finding a woman being roughed up by her boyfriend, Hank intervenes and ends up getting beaten up himself. The next day, he wakes up on the beach with a sore head and a new case on his hands.

Hank and Britt are hired by a wealthy local businessman, Robert Lindus (Derek Webster), to recover a stolen dog. At first, the pair is hesitant to take the case, as it seems trivial compared to the serious crimes they usually investigate. However, Hank is convinced to take on the job when he realizes that the dog's owner is Gretchen (Kimberly Quinn), his old high school sweetheart and the woman who broke his heart.

As they investigate the case, Hank and Britt quickly realize that there is more to the theft than meets the eye. They learn that Gretchen's husband, Jason Adler (Loren Dean), is heavily in debt to a local gangster and may have staged the theft of his own dog to collect the insurance payout. Meanwhile, Hank finds himself struggling with his feelings for Gretchen, who is now married with children.

The investigation takes Hank and Britt all over town as they follow leads and try to piece together what happened to the missing dog. Along the way, they encounter a number of colorful characters, including Hank's ex-partner Mark Gustafson (Rockmond Dunbar) and a local meth dealer named T-Bonz (Robert Craighead).

As the case comes to a surprising conclusion, Hank and Britt realize that they may have stumbled onto something much bigger than a simple dog-napping. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Hank receiving a mysterious phone call from someone who seems to know the truth about the Lindus case.

Overall, the pilot episode of Terriers is a well-crafted blend of dark humor, snappy dialogue, and suspenseful storytelling. The chemistry between Logue and Raymond-James is electric, and the supporting cast is full of memorable characters who add depth and dimension to the show's world. With its sharp writing, compelling plot, and strong performances, Terriers is a promising start to what promises to be an engaging and entertaining series.
