The Cool Kids season 1 episode 10, titled "Funeral Crashers," opens with a somber scene as the gang prepares to attend Hank's funeral. The four friends - Charlie, Hank, Sid, and Margaret - are all feeling the weight of their own mortality as they gather to say goodbye to their dear friend.
As they arrive at the funeral home, they realize that they are the only guests in attendance. They quickly learn that Hank had no living family or close friends, and they are left to mourn him alone. Feeling a sense of responsibility to honor their friend's memory, they begin to plan a funeral that they hope he would have wanted.
As they start to make arrangements, they are approached by a group of strangers who claim to have been friends with Hank. The Cool Kids are skeptical of these newcomers, but they soon realize that these "funeral crashers" are actually members of a local club for lonely seniors who attend funerals of people they don't know as a way to feel less alone.
The group is hesitant to allow the strangers to take part in Hank's funeral, but they eventually decide to let them in. As the service begins, the Cool Kids and the funeral crashers come together to celebrate Hank's life. They share stories, sing songs, and even perform a dance routine to remember their friend.
Through their act of kindness and inclusivity, not only do the Cool Kids give Hank the send-off he deserved, but they also show that community can be found in the most unexpected places.
The episode ends with the Cool Kids reflecting on the day's events, grateful for the chance to have known Hank and to have made some new friends in the process. As they leave the funeral home, they begin to talk about what they want for their own funerals, reaffirming the bond that they share and their appreciation for the time they have left.
