The Evermoor Chronicles season 1 episode 1 titled "Normal" introduces us to the main character, Tara Crossley, a teenage girl from America who moves to a small village in England with her family. They move to a house called Evermoor Manor, which is situated in front of a big, eerie and magical forest that leads to even more mysterious places.
At the beginning of the episode, we see Tara's parents telling their four children, Jake, Ludo, Bella, and Tara, that they are moving from their house in America to the UK because of a job opportunity that opens up for Tara's mother. Tara's siblings are not thrilled with this news, but they agree to go, and the family sets off on their journey to Evermoor Manor.
When they arrive, Tara is immediately fascinated by the manor and the surrounding forest. She meets her new neighbor, and the local community guide, Sylvia, who gives her a tour of the village, including the local marketplace where the townspeople sell their crafts, and the village's central gathering place.
Tara soon learns that her new home has many secrets. One of those secrets is that her mother had lived in Evermoor before and had left very suddenly. Tara's grandmother, Eleanor, is the current owner of the house and has an immediate distaste for Tara's mother, which creates an awkward atmosphere throughout the family's stay.
Tara also meets the family's butler, Seb, who seems to know a lot about the house's secrets and on who Tara immediately develops a crush. Seb leaves a mysterious symbol on Tara's closet door, a symbol that Tara found later on the gate of the forest. Tara is curious about what the symbol might mean and seeks answers.
Meanwhile, Tara's siblings are trying to adjust to their new life in Evermoor. Bella, Tara's younger sister, is excited to explore the whole town and to try to fit in with the new kids in her class. Jake, her older brother, is uninterested and more open about his negative feelings about the move.
As the episode unfolds, Tara tries to make sense of her surroundings and the strange occurrences that keep happening around her. She stumbles upon a magic typewriter, a machine that seems to know a lot about the history of the town and the family who had lived there before. She also finds a diary that was written by her mother during her stay in Evermoor, which enlightens her about her mother's time in the town.
Tara takes a step into the forest and discovers a hidden pond, where three mysterious figures converge and give her a cryptic message about her fate. From that moment, Tara begins to realize that her life in Evermoor is far from ordinary.
