The show flashes back to the events that led to Emily's mom’s downfall. Viewers learn that David Clarke was Amanda's father and the CEO of a successful hedge fund. His relationship with Victoria Grayson, the matriarch of the Grayson family, led to false allegations against Amanda's mother. While David was imprisoned as well, Amanda was separated from her parents and grew up in foster care, planning her vengeance.

In the present day, Emily walks a fine line between pretense and truth as she gets closer to her enemies. She continues pretending to be a normal teenager and Daniel Grayson's new girlfriend, as she secretly tries to uncover the Grayson's crimes.

Emily has help in her quest from Nolan Ross, a brilliant tech wiz who was her father's business partner. Nolan provides Emily with the resources she needs to infiltrate the Graysons' lives and supports her scheme.

As Emily executes each stage of her elaborate plan, the Graysons as well as her fellow students begin to suspect there’s more to this new girl in town than meets the eye. The show becomes a battle of wits as Emily races to reveal the Graysons’ guilt before she’s exposed.
