It takes place between The Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. The series airs on Disney+. The Mandalorian is set just a handful of years after The Return of the Jedi. The Empire has fallen, and the New Republic is struggling to establish control at the wild edges of the galaxy. Into this frontier comes a mysterious bounty hunter. He wears Mandalorian armor and is willing to hunt down anyone for the right price. The Mandalorian finds himself on an unusual quest when a job unites him with a strange being that he calls The Child. He soon discovers that The Child is sensitive to the Force. And the kid's powers have made him a target for the evil remnants of the Empire. It's up to the Mandalorian to protect The Child and deliver him to safety. The series builds on characters and situations established in the animated Star Wars series The Clone Wars and Rebels. Recurring characters include the Mandalorian warrior Boka Tan and the Jedi Knight Asohka Tano. The series also adds new characters, such as the villain Moff Gideon, and situations. As the episodes play out, a bridge between the original Star Wars trilogy and the most recent film trilogy begins to be built.
