Ep 15. Deep Throat

The Nanny season 1 episode 15, titled "Deep Throat," opens with Fran setting up a date with a man she met at the grocery store, but her plans are interrupted when she discovers that Niles has a lump on his throat. Despite initial reluctance, Niles agrees to go to the doctor, and Fran accompanies him to the appointment.

While waiting for Niles to be seen, Fran strikes up a conversation with another patient, who offers to help her get Niles seen more quickly. Fran is initially grateful for the assistance, but soon realizes that the man, named Al, is trying to hit on her.

Meanwhile, Niles sees the doctor, who refers him to a specialist and warns him that the lump may be cancerous. Niles is understandably upset by the news, but tries to keep a brave face for Fran.

At the specialist's office, Fran and Niles are surprised to learn that the doctor is actually a woman- a beautiful one, at that. Fran becomes jealous as Niles seems to hit it off with the doctor, and she tries to distract herself by flirting with Al. However, when Fran realizes that Al is only interested in her because of her connection to the wealthy Sheffield family, she begins to see him in a different light.

Meanwhile, Niles undergoes a procedure to determine whether the lump is benign or malignant. Fran tries to be supportive, but her nerves get the best of her, and she ends up spilling coffee all over the doctor's blouse. Embarrassed, Fran rushes out of the office, leaving Niles behind.

At home, Fran confides in Mr. Sheffield about Niles' health scare and her own emotional rollercoaster. Mr. Sheffield tries to comfort her, but when Fran suggests that she may be in love with Niles, he seems less than enthusiastic about the idea.

Later, Niles comes home, relieved to learn that the lump is indeed benign. However, he is hurt and confused when Fran tries to distance herself from him, insisting that they can never be more than friends.

In the end, Fran and Niles reconcile and decide to take things slow. As they share a drink on the balcony, Fran realizes that she may have deeper feelings for him than she first thought. However, when she tries to express her emotions, Niles misunderstands and assumes that Fran is simply trying to console him.

The episode ends with Fran and Niles sharing a bittersweet moment, each thinking that the other doesn't feel the same way. As they part ways, Fran is left to wonder if she missed her chance at love.
