Set in ancient China, "The Rise of Phoenixes" is a dramatic television series that follows the lives of two characters, Ning Yi and Feng Zhiwei, whose fates are intertwined. In episode 3 of season 1, "Episode 3," viewers are treated to a continuation of the story that began in the first two episodes, as the characters find themselves facing new challenges and obstacles.

When we last saw Ning Yi, a prince who is determined to avenge his family and take control of the throne, he had narrowly escaped an assassination attempt. In this episode, we see him determined to find out who is behind the attack and to take revenge. Meanwhile, Feng Zhiwei, a woman who has been living disguised as a man to protect herself, is being courted by several potential suitors, but she must tread carefully to avoid revealing her true identity and to protect herself from those who would harm her.

The episode begins with Ning Yi meeting with his trusted advisor, Yan Que, to discuss the attempted assassination. Yan Que is convinced that the culprit is none other than Ning Shizheng, Ning Yi's own brother, but Ning Yi is reluctant to believe this without evidence. In an effort to gather more information, Ning Yi decides to visit his mother, who is locked away in a tower and has been driven mad by the events that have befallen their family. Ning Yi believes that his mother may have important information about their enemies and hopes to glean some insights from her ravings.

Meanwhile, Feng Zhiwei finds herself increasingly drawn to the mysterious and enigmatic Prince Guangping, who has asked her to be his companion on a hunting trip. Despite her reservations about revealing her true identity, Feng Zhiwei decides to accept the invitation in order to learn more about this intriguing man. On the road to the hunting grounds, the two become separated from the others and find themselves alone together in a secluded spot. As they chat and flirt, Feng Zhiwei begins to suspect that Prince Guangping may have motives that go beyond simply getting to know her better.

Back at the palace, Ning Yi is confronted by his brother Ning Shizheng, who denies any involvement in the assassination attempt. Ning Yi remains suspicious, but without concrete evidence, he is hesitant to take action against his own flesh and blood. As he struggles with this moral dilemma, Ning Yi must also deal with the machinations of his power-hungry aunt, who is plotting to put her own son on the throne.

As the episode comes to a close, viewers are left with several tantalizing cliffhangers. Will Ning Yi be able to uncover the truth about the assassination attempt and bring his enemies to justice? Will Feng Zhiwei be able to keep her true identity hidden and navigate the treacherous waters of courtly romance? And what new challenges will the next episode bring for these two fascinating characters?
