In The Voice season 1 episode 5, titled The Battles (3), the competition heats up as the remaining contestants are paired up for duets. As part of the battle rounds, each pair must perform a song together and showcase their individual strengths while also working as a team. The stakes are high as the coaches must choose which member of their team will advance to the next round.

The episode begins with the coaches – Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, CeeLo Green, and Blake Shelton – offering advice and guidance to their respective teams as they prepare for the battles. The contestants also receive help from guest advisers, including Lionel Richie, Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert, and Alanis Morissette.

The first battle of the night is between two members of Team Christina – Frenchie Davis and Tarralyn Ramsey. They perform a powerful rendition of Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" that leaves the coaches impressed. Christina must make a difficult decision, but ultimately chooses Frenchie to advance to the next round.

Next up is a battle between two contestants from Team CeeLo – Kelsey Rey and Tori & Taylor Thompson. They take on the classic rock song "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield and deliver a fun and energetic performance. While the coaches are split on who should advance, CeeLo ultimately chooses Tori & Taylor to move forward.

The third battle of the night is between Vicci Martinez and Niki Dawson from Team CeeLo. They perform Pink's hit song "Perfect" and showcase their respective strengths – Vicci's powerful vocals and Niki's emotional delivery. Despite the tough decision, CeeLo chooses Vicci to advance to the next round.

Up next is a battle between two members of Team Blake – Elenowen and Jared Blake. They tackle the Tom Petty classic "Free Fallin'" and deliver a beautiful and emotional performance. Blake must choose between the duo and the solo artist, but ultimately decides to advance Jared to the next round.

The fifth battle of the night features two contestants from Team Adam – Jeff Jenkins and Casey Desmond. They perform the Train hit "Drops of Jupiter" and impress the coaches with their harmonies and stage presence. After a tough decision, Adam chooses Jeff to move on to the next round.

The final battle of the night is between two contestants from Team Christina – Beverly McClellan and Justin Grennan. They take on the rock classic "Baba O'Riley" by The Who and deliver a high-energy performance that has the coaches on their feet. In the end, Christina chooses Beverly to advance to the next round.

As the battles come to a close, the coaches reflect on the difficult decisions they had to make and express their excitement for the upcoming knockout rounds. The competition is only getting tougher, and the remaining contestants know they must bring their A-game if they want to make it to the next round.
