- November 4, 2019
In season 17 of The Voice, the stakes are high as the top contenders face off in the Knockout rounds. In episode 13, aptly titled "The Knockouts, Part 3," the third and final batch of artists will showcase their skills and battle it out for a spot in the Live Playoff round.
The episode kicks off with the coaches, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend, preparing to make some tough decisions. They have each selected two artists from their respective teams to go head-to-head in the Knockouts. The pairs will perform individual songs of their choosing, and only one will move on to the Playoffs.
First up is Blake's country crooner, Cali Wilson, taking on the soulful Marina Chello. Cali opts for a stripped-down rendition of "Toxic" by Britney Spears while Marina gives a powerful performance of "I (Who Have Nothing)" by Shirley Bassey. Despite the close competition, Blake ultimately decides to stick with Cali, sending Marina home.
Next, it's Gwen's turn to make a difficult choice between her rockers. First up is Rose Short, who wows with her rendition of "Big White Room" by Jessie J. Her competitor, Kyndal Inskeep, takes a risk by tackling Whitney Houston's "Elevator Operator." While Kyndal impresses with her vocal range, Gwen ultimately chooses Rose based on her stage presence and emotional delivery.
Kelly has a tough decision to make between her two R&B vocalists, Shane Q and Kiara Brown. Shane brings his smooth charm to "In Case You Didn't Know" by Brett Young, while Kiara delivers a powerhouse performance of "Arms" by Christina Perri. Kelly remarks that it's like "apples and oranges" comparing the two, but ultimately selects Shane to move on.
Last but not least, John has to choose between his two soulful singers, Katie Kadan and Destiny Rayne. Katie brings her signature sass and attitude to "Piece of My Heart" by Janis Joplin, while Destiny goes for a soulful take on "Tell Me You Love Me" by Demi Lovato. In the end, John selects Katie to move on, citing her unique voice and fearless attitude.
Throughout the episode, the coaches offer feedback and encouragement to their artists, highlighting their strengths and offering constructive criticism. At times, the coaches' decisions are difficult and emotional, with some artists breaking down in tears upon their elimination. However, the coaches emphasize that their choices are ultimately based on who they believe has the best chance of moving forward and succeeding in the competition.
Overall, "The Knockouts, Part 3" is a thrilling episode full of impressive vocal performances and tough decisions. It sets the stage for an exciting Live Playoff round, where the remaining artists will have to step up their game even further in order to win over America's votes and advance to the next round.
