Kimmy Goes to the Doctor! is the fourth episode of the first season of the Netflix comedy series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The episode takes place after Kimmy (Ellie Kemper), a young woman who had been held captive underground for 15 years, moves to New York City to start her life over.
The episode begins with Kimmy waking up with a terrible cough. Her roommate, Titus (Tituss Burgess), suggests she see a doctor, but Kimmy insists that she can't afford it. However, when she realizes that she can use her "victim card" for free medical care, she decides to take advantage of the system.
Kimmy arrives at the doctor's office, where she meets Dr. Franff (Jonathan Hadary), a quirky physician who is impressed by Kimmy's resilience. However, Kimmy is shocked to discover that she needs to have her appendix removed and doesn't have insurance to cover the procedure. Determined to pay for the surgery, Kimmy takes on odd jobs around the city, including dressing up as a robot for a Times Square street performer and babysitting a wealthy couple's son.
Meanwhile, Titus auditions for a role in a local production of The Lion King, but is devastated when he is not cast as Simba. He becomes depressed and starts binge-eating, leading Kimmy to try and cheer him up. Together, they come up with a plan to make Titus feel better: they will put on their own production of The Lion King, with Titus playing every role.
As Kimmy works to raise the money for her surgery, she begins to question whether or not she is still a victim. She wonders if she is using her trauma to manipulate the people around her and whether or not she should still be considered a victim after all these years. However, with the help of Dr. Franff and her friends, Kimmy comes to the realization that she is much stronger than she gives herself credit for.
In the end, Kimmy has her surgery and recovers without any complications. Titus's Lion King production is a hit, and Kimmy realizes that, while she may have been a victim in the past, she is now a survivor. The episode ends with Kimmy and Titus singing "Circle of Life" together, symbolizing their newfound strength and resilience.
Overall, Kimmy Goes to the Doctor! is a lighthearted and heartwarming episode that showcases the strength and determination of its titular character. With its witty humor and positive message, it is an excellent addition to the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt series.
