- May 12, 2010
Web Soup is a TV show that features viral videos and popular memes from the internet. Hosted by comedian Chris Hardwick, this show showcases the funniest, most outrageous and sometimes, bizarre clips from the web. Season 2, Episode 11 is no exception to this rule.
The 11th episode of the second season begins with a video of a cat attempting to catch a bird. Though the cat manages to successfully capture the bird, the video turns out to be frantically humorous. Then, Chris takes a dig at Matt Lauer, who is a news anchor, by digging out a video that features Lauer dancing to "Livin' la Vida Loca" at a wedding. In the next segment, Chris showcases a video of a Russian car chase where the cops and the robbers are both driving on the wrong side of the road. The chase ends in a massive car crash that leaves the Russian road littered with debris.
Next, the show features a clip from an old episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, where Oprah gets excited about a brand-new computer that can connect to the internet. Making fun of the outdated technology and old-fashioned interface, Chris jokingly asks if the computer is a "stone tablet".
Moving on, Chris showcases a video of a meme-turned-real-life prank, where an entire classroom of students wears the same outfit and the teacher walks in, completely confused. The video is hilarious and highlights how the internet can often take an idea and turn it into something much more amusing.
Then, we see a video featuring a girl who is scared to death by a virtual reality game. The video shows her screaming and ducking her head out of fear. The segment is a great example of how immersive virtual reality can be.
Chris then introduces a hilarious video of a cat that is completely unaware of its own reflection in a mirror. When the cat finally realizes its own reflection, it goes bonkers, resulting in a hilarious visual.
In another segment, Chris showcases a video of a man who thinks he is being followed by a ninja. He is so convinced that he pulls out his phone and begins filming. The video shows him running through his office as if he is being chased by a professional ninja assassin. Suddenly, the ninja takes his mask off to reveal it was just a friend of the man's who is also dressed up as a ninja. The video is funny and full of action.
In the final segment, Chris introduces a documentary-style video about a couple who adopts a squirrel as their pet. The video shows how they care for, feed and nurture the squirrel, as they would any domesticated animal. The couple takes the squirrel on walks and even gives it a little harness to wear. The squirrel becomes a beloved family pet and brings a lot of joy to the couple's life.
Overall, Season 2, Episode 11 of Web Soup is a hilarious journey through the internet's most viral videos and memes. Chris Hardwick's commentary often makes the videos even funnier, and the show highlights how funny and infectious the internet can be.
