Dave tries to throw them out, but after hearing them sing, decides to become their writer and manager, but he doesn't want to become too attached to the little guys. Their Christmas song soon becomes a smash hit, and the Chipmunks start to see Dave as a father figure, but he doesn't seem to feel the same way. The 'boys' begin to feel as though they would be better off without Dave as their manager, and turn to their flashy 'uncle' Ian for support.
Greedy Ian steps in and takes over the Chipmunks' career, projecting them to superstardom, but treating them like animals, keeping them in cages between shows. Dave realizes that he does care for the trio, and he vows to rescue them from the clutches of the evil Ian.
Partnered with Claire, who resumes her role as his girlfriend, Dave sets out to rescue Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, and restore their little family. Once the Chipmunks and Dave are reunited, he admits that he loves them like sons, and they settle in to become a happy family, at least until Alvin causes a blackout during Dave's date with Claire, and Dave finds himself shouting his trademark yell of 'Alllllvvvviiiinnnnn!!!!'
Although aimed at children, most parents will remember these characters from the animated series and records of the sixties, seventies, eighties, and nineties. The movie introduces the cute little Chipmunks to a whole new generation of children, and brings back fond memories for parents.
