The Cat in the Hat is a live action version of the classic Dr. Seuss tale of the same name. The film follows The Cat in the Hat (Mike Meyers) and the two children he meets one day, Sally (Dakota Fanning) and Conrad (Spencer Breslin). The Cat in the Hat begins with Sally and Conrad staying at home alone while their mother Joan, played by Kelly Preston, goes in to work. The children are under strict orders not to get the house messy, as their mother is having an important party later that evening. The children are also trying to behave in order to prevent Conrad from being sent away to military school by their mother's mean boyfriend Larry, played by Alec Baldwin. The children are doing a good job of behaving before they find The Cat in the Hat in their home. The Cat only wants the children to have fun, but the kid's fish, voiced by Sean Hayes, doesn't think having the Cat in the house is a good ideal at all. The fish turns out to be right as in the span of only a short period of time the Cat ruins Joan's dress, unleashes Thing 1 and Thing 2 on the house for mass destruction and causes the dog to become lost. It looks like all hope is gone for the kids when Larry discovers the mess, but luckily The Cat in the Hat saves the day by finding the dog and returning the house to its beautiful condition. Joan comes to realize that Larry is not the man for her and breaks up with him, and her party goes off with out a hitch. In the end the children and their mother are able to end the day having a fun time in their home, the main objective of The Cat in the Hat in the first place.
