On board the ship, the chipmunks are enjoying all the amenities and having a blast until Dave insists on making them stay in the kids' club while he takes some time to relax. The chipmunks are bored and feeling rebellious, so they convince Dave to go on an adventure with them to explore the island they see in the distance.

As they navigate through the jungle and try to survive on the island, the chipmunks encounter a number of obstacles, including Ian's constant attempts to take them down and a new nemesis in the form of a crazed castaway named Zoe (Jenny Slate). Zoe, who has been living on the island for years, is convinced that the chipmunks are a figment of her imagination until she finally meets them.
