Pale Saints is a psychological thriller movie from 1997 directed by J.H. Wyman. The film stars Sean Patrick Flanery as Benny, a disturbed young man who finds himself in a downward spiral of paranoia and violence. Saul Rubinek plays Walter, an older man who takes Benny under his wing, while Michael Riley plays Frank, a detective who becomes obsessed with tracking down Benny after a series of murders.

The movie is set in a desolate suburb of Toronto, where Benny is scraping by as a mechanic and trying to keep his head above water. He is living alone in a dilapidated house, haunted by memories of his childhood and struggling with his own inner demons. Benny is a troubled character from the outset, and the audience is given a glimpse of his instability early on. Despite his emotional problems, Benny remains sympathetic throughout the film, and the audience is allowed to see his vulnerability and humanity.

Enter Walter, an older man who takes Benny in and gives him a job at his rundown motel. The two men strike up an unlikely friendship, with Walter acting as a father figure to Benny. However, it soon becomes clear that Walter is not all that he seems. He is involved in some shady dealings, and it's not long before Benny finds himself caught up in a web of deceit and violence. The tension starts to build as Benny takes increasingly extreme measures to protect himself from Walter's schemes.

Meanwhile, Frank is a detective who is investigating a string of murders in the area. He is convinced that Benny is the perpetrator, and his obsession with catching him becomes all-consuming. As the bodies pile up and the pressure mounts, Frank becomes more and more unhinged, leading to a shocking conclusion that nobody could have predicted.

The cinematography in Pale Saints is dark and moody, perfectly capturing the bleakness of the setting and the inner turmoil of the characters. The performances are universally excellent, with Sean Patrick Flanery delivering a standout performance as Benny. He portrays the character's complexity with nuance and sensitivity, making the audience care about him even as he becomes more and more dangerous.

Saul Rubinek also shines as Walter, bringing a sinister edge to the character that keeps the audience on edge throughout the film. Michael Riley is equally compelling as Frank, capturing the character's descent into madness with chilling accuracy.

Overall, Pale Saints is a gripping and intense thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The characters are complex and well-drawn, and the plot twists and turns in unexpected ways. It's a movie that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.
