"A Woman Under the Influence" is a 1974 film which stars Gena Rowlands and peter Falk. The movie is directed by John Cassavetes. Gena Rowlands is the wife of director and actor John Cassavetes. The movie was nominated for two academy awards. The movie centers around a woman who is devoted to her husband and children. However, her bizarre and demented behavior begins to take a toll on the marriage as well as the relationship with the children. Nick is Mabel's husband and he recognizes that Mabel's behavior is not normal and continues to get worse. Nick eventually seeks psychiatric help for his mentally ill wife. A psychiatrist recommends placing Mabel into a mental hospital for intensive treatment. Mabel stays in the institution for a few weeks and is then released. Mabel's husband starts to have second thoughts weather or not it was the correct decision to have Mabel committed to a hospital. The family tries hard to put the pieces back in place following Mable's release. However, things never seem to be the same since Mabel returned home from the mental institution.
