The sleepy little English village of St. Mary Mead has been engulfed in excitement. An American film company has descended on the quite countryside to film an historical costume drama. Most of the drama takes place off-stage, as the two principal actresses in the movie, Marina and Lola, hate each other. When a excited fan dies from poisoning at a reception for the movie stars, Marina becomes hysterical, sure the poison was meant for her. It's up to the indomitable Miss Marple, an elderly spinster in the village with a knack for detective work, to solve the mysterious crime.
