Beneath Hill 60

"BENEATH HILL 60 featuring Captain Woodward MC commanding the Australian Hill 60 Tunnelers of World War 1"

The movie Beneath Hill 60 is set during World War I. The story follows the first Tunneling Company from Australia. They were sent to mine under a German bunker to allow the British troops to move forward. The company was also supposed to designate an explosive during this time. This movie is based off of the real life account by Captain Oliver Woodward.

There are several flashbacks that a person can see in the film. Oliver Woodward is a miner and he is under pressure to enlist in the armed forces. He is chosen by the Royal Engineers from Brittan to head their mining unit. The experience is not quite what Woodward through it would be. He meets a young soldier who is in shock from the war. He meets another solider that is killed in an effort to each the German tunnel. Woodward leads the team to destroy what is known as the Red House. They set up explosive devices but the fuse is too short to set them off. One of the soldiers runs back and manually set the device off but is killed during the explosion. Missions are being completed but Woodward is losing members of his team in the process.

The British has developed a plan to tunnel under the German camp to move forwards. The plan does not work out like the soldiers thought. The Germans find out about the tunnel and attack. Woodward and his team begin to set off the explosive and this starts the Battle of Messines. Woodward is lucky to survive the battle and is able to return to Australia. He marries his longtime sweetheart but does not get to live happily ever after. The movie ends showing Woodward suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and having vivid flashbacks of the war.
