The movie opens in the province of Sierra Leone. A West African Nation that has been ravaged by political unrest. The rebel group known as Revolutionary United Front terrorizes the civilians and forces them to harvest diamonds. Solomon Vandy is one of the enslaved civilians. He was one of the many civilians who were overseen by a ruthless warlord named Captain Poison. One day Vandy discovers a huge pink diamond and buries it. Captain Poison found out about Vandy’s action but was unable to get his hands on the diamond because on that very moment the government security raided the whole area. Poison and Vandy was then detained at Freetown. Danny Archer was one of the detainees while Vandy and Poison was there. Danny is an arms smuggler and he learned about the pink diamond. Archer managed to get himself out of incarceration and also manages to free Vandy. After some events he struck a deal to with Vandy to help him and his family if he helps him recover the buried diamond. Freetown was then raided by the rebels. Archer and Vandy escapes to Guinea where they meet with Maddy Bowen, an American journalist. Archer and Vandy reached Vandy’s former encampment where he buried the diamond. Dia, one of Vandy’s sons was also stationed there. Archer then relays the coordinates to Coeztee. The place was then raided by a Mi-24 helicoper gunship. Vandy killed Poison with a shovel and convinced his son to return to him. Vandy brought Archer and Coeztee to the place where he buried the diamond. However, Archer shockingly shoots Coeztee and his men. Archer knew that once their usefulness has run out they will also be killed. While on the run, Archer was mortally wounded. He collapses and hands out the pink diamond to Vandy. He instructs Vandy to take it so it can buy a better life for his family. Archer then called Maddy instructing her to assist Vandy in any way she can. Archer then peacefully dies while viewing the African landscape. Afterwards, Vandy was meeting with a representative of Van de Kaap. He was already living in United Kingdom at this time. Maddy secretly photographs the dealing between Vandy and Van de Kaap. Maddy then writes an article exposing Van de Kaap and its connection with the conflict diamonds.
