Born To Be Blue is the story of Chet Baker, played by Ethan Hawke, and the highlights of his life, specifically in 1966 during a very pivotal moment in his life and career. Being a trumpeter, Baker is approached by a director and asked to star in a film that, oddly enough, is about his own life, but mainly the point where earlier in his life he was using heroin to get by. During the process of shooting the movie, Baker has many interactions with his co-star named Jane, played by Carmen Ejogo, which eventually builds and leads to a romance with both characters as time goes on. The two end up dating and things seem to be going fine, until on their date Baker gets jumped by street thugs. Although he recovers, his front teeth are damaged, putting his musical career at serious risk. Luckily, Jane is around to help him try and pull himself up from losing his trumpeting career altogether.
