Bravo Two Zero is a tale based on real events in Iraq. An elite military eight member team is sent in to Iraq with two mission directives. The first is to destroy a communication line vital to enemy movement. The second is to take out as many SCUD missiles as possible. Dropped in behind enemy lines by helicopter, each member of this team carries the necessary equipment to carry out their mission. Andy (Sean Bean) heads up the Special Forces team chosen to carry out the mission. Complications to the plan occur almost immediately when a shepherd boy discovers them in a ravine, and runs to tell adults. The team gets split up and goes for the secondary protocol, which is finding and destroying SCUD missiles. The team is compromised, and all members, save three, are rounded up and interrogated. The methods of interrogation by torture is used on all team members, and includes, but is not limited to physical assault, food deprivation, water deprivation, solitary confinement, and consumption of their own excrement. Tooth extraction, without anesthesia, was considered giving medical aid to the prisoner. In reality, this was merely another form of torture. That anyone survived this kind of treatment is a testament of the internal fortitude of these soldiers. Of the eight men that went on that mission, only five returned. This true life story of the events experienced by the BRAVO TWO ZERO team brings home the realities of war. Stripped of Hollywood bravado and special effects, the grit and grime of this presentation makes for a riveting experience for the audience. This realistic format can only increase the respect for those individual who selflessly place themselves in harm’s way to protect our freedom and way of life. As this is a graphic film, it should be for adult audiences only.
