Set in the 1980s, the crime thriller 'Caught' follows the story of Joe, a British soldier who returns to his hometown, Manchester, after serving in the Falklands War. Disillusioned with his life and suffering from PTSD, Joe is unable to fit back in with his old friends and family. In search of a purpose, Joe stumbles upon a group of drug dealers and soon becomes embroiled in the dangerous world of drugs and crime.

At the center of the story is Joe's relationship with Punjabi drug dealer, Ratan, and his closest friend, Olu, a Ghanian immigrant living in Manchester. Joe begins to work for Ratan, acting as a courier for his drug operations. However, when Joe is caught by the police, he is forced to choose between his loyalty to Ratan and his own freedom. This leads him into a life-threatening situation, where he must rely on Olu and his quick thinking to secure his safety.

As Joe becomes more involved with Ratan, his life spirals out of control. He finds himself caught between his old life and the lure of the dangerous world he's entered. With the growing presence of drug addiction and violence, Joe is in too deep to just walk away.

The movie delves into themes such as crime, addiction, loyalty, and identity crisis. The characters in the film come from diverse backgrounds and highlight the cultural diversity of Manchester. While it is primarily a crime thriller, 'Caught' also portrays how the lives of people from different ethnicities intertwine in British society.

The acting in the film is generally solid, with John Shepherd delivering a strong performance as a man grappling with his place in the world. Amerjit Deu plays Ratan with gravitas, capturing the dangerous nature of his character. Alex Tetteh-Lartey is also impressive as Olu, Joe's closest friend, who provides a moral compass for him.

The direction by the late British filmmaker Peter Litten is competent, but not exceptional. Litten manages to capture the grittiness of Manchester, but the movie at times feels somewhat dated. The film's score, composed by the British musician Simon Boswell, injects intensity and suspense into the scenes.

'Caught' is not a movie without flaws, but it is still an enjoyable watch. It provides an interesting perspective on British society in the 1980s, where the issue of drug addiction and crime were at their peak. It also showcases the immigrant experience and how they cope with the unfamiliarity of living in a new country. Overall, the film is a decent crime thriller and worth watching for those interested in British cinema.

Caught is a 1987 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 55 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.6.
