Definitely, Maybe is a 2008 movie that stars Ryan Reynolds, Abigail Breslin, Isla Fisher, Rachel Weisz, Elizabeth Banks and Kevin Kline. The film is directed by Adam Brooks and deals with the subjects of love, parenthood and divorce. Ryan Reynolds plays the main character named Will Hayes. He is a 38 year old man who has one child, named Maya who is played by Abigail Breslin. Will is getting divorced and is in the midst of signing his divorce papers. He feels very upset and goes to his daughter’s school where parents and kids are upset over a sex education class. Maya becomes curious and asks Will about how he met her mom. He decides to tell her the story about his loves and losses but decides to change the names of the women so that she does not know which one is her mother. The movie then begins in 1992 where Will has just finished college and is leaving his college love Emily so that he can go to New York City and work on Bill Clinton’s campaign. Will wants to be a political operative and feels discouraged when he does menial tasks and cannot write speeches or do anything interesting. One day, he bumps into a fellow campaign worker named April and the two strike up a conversation. Will informs her that he plans to propose to Emily when she comes to visit and he begrudgingly practices his proposal on April. Her response is definitely maybe. April and Will kiss after she tells him that she collects Jane Eyre books in the hopes of finding the one that her father inscribed to her as a child. The next day he proposes to Emily but she says no because she slept with his roommate. April goes off to travel abroad, Emily returns to Wisconsin and Will keeps in contact with April via postcards and letters. The movie continues on with Will’s romances and his friendship with April. He meets Summer who is a writer and their relationship fizzles after a betrayal. The movie culminates with Maya guessing who her mother is in the story and encouraging Will to go and reunite with April.
