Dr. Alien is a classic 1989 comedy sci-fi movie directed by David DeCoteau, who later became known for his work in B-movie horror genre. The movie stars Billy Jayne as Wesley Littlejohn, a high school student who, with the help of his alien chemistry teacher, transforms from a nerdy geek to the most popular guy in school. The film also features Judy Landers as Dr. Xenobia, a beautiful and eccentric alien scientist, and Olivia Barash as a wild and rebellious student named Tara.

The movie's plot starts with Wesley, who is a social outcast and a dorky student in high school. Despite his intelligence, he is bullied and ostracized, especially by the football jocks who humiliate him at every opportunity. His life, however, takes a dramatic turn when he meets Dr. Xenobia, a new teacher at his school, who is from another planet. She is conducting biological experiments that could change the course of the human evolution.

Dr. Xenobia takes a liking to Wesley, who is intrigued by her unorthodox teaching style and the subjects she teaches. She takes him under her wing and starts to mentor him. She also gives him a serum that transforms him into a tall, muscular hunk, with great physical and intellectual abilities. He gains confidence and suddenly becomes the most popular boy in school, attracting girls, envious looks from other jocks and even the interest of his former bullies.

To Wesley's amazement, he discovers that Dr. Xenobia's serum can do more than just change his appearance. He can also fly, shoot energy blasts from his eyes, and has superhuman strength. He uses these newfound abilities to help others, but he has a hard time keeping them hidden from his friends and classmates.

As the plot develops, Dr. Xenobia's intentions become clear: her experiments are not just for the benefit of humankind. She has her own agenda, and unleashes a dangerous creature on the school. Dr. Xenobia's creation is part human, part alien, and has a thirst for destruction. Wesley, with the help of his friends, must stop the creature before it destroys the school.

Dr. Alien is a classic 1980s sci-fi movie that combines the themes of high school drama with those of B-movie horror and comedy. It has all the elements of an entertaining movie of its era- a nerdy high school protagonist, a beautiful alien teacher, a monster on the loose, and lots of humor. The acting performances are good, especially Billy Jayne's transformation from a lovable nerd to a confident jock. The film’s pacing is quick and engaging, and the special effects are for the most part, are convincing enough to give the movie its campy charm.

The movie does not strictly stick to the sci-fi genre, as it has an overarching theme of high school drama that will have viewers reminiscing about their own teenage experiences. The movie conveys the message that popularity and physical attributes are not the end-all-be-all, and it’s essential to remain true to oneself to emerge as a winner.

All in all, Dr. Alien is a fun-filled, lighthearted sci-fi comedy movie that makes for an entertaining watch. Fans of 80s and early 90s B-movie horror and comedy will enjoy sinking their teeth into this cult classic.

Dr Alien is a 1989 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 23 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.8.
