East Side Sushi is about a single Latino mother who owns a fruit cart but is forced to sell due to a need for a more stable income. The mother then gets a job in a sushi place where she begins to learn about a whole new world of food and an entirely new culture. During her journey she gets close with her Japanese boss where she learns how to make a wide variety of sushi.

She finds that she wants more for herself and her life. She goes on a search to become a sushi chef but finds that she isn't getting the job as she is considered to be the wrong race and gender. However, that doesn't stop this mom and she continues her journey to follow her dreams and reach the goals that she has set for herself.
