In 1950's New York, a young woman who despite being lonely and new to being an adult, searches for her opportunity to obtain her dream job. Therese is seeing Richard, a man whom she is not in love with and does not want to be intimate with. Stuck working in a department store, she meets Carol. Carol gives Therese her address in order to have the store mail her purchases. Therese sends Carol a Christmas card and ends up getting close to her. They both have an attraction to each other but Carol could be risking her daughter.
